The fireplace has a weird smell

I looked all over the bedroom to try & figure out where the fish smell was coming from.

I have been wanting to build our own lake beach house for so time now. I have saved up for years to build our own home, & I was finally able to start about fourteen months ago, and everything is finished except for a few things on the minute floor. I have consistently wanted an open floor system downstairs, & that is exactly what I ended up going with. The dining room, bedroom, & dining room are all one big space. To me, having a fireplace in the dining room makes it think more homey. I did not want to have to deal with splitting wood & bringing it into the beach house though, so I decided to go with a strange kind of fireplace. I looked at a few electric ones & some propane fireplaces. The propane fireplaces claimed to be cheaper & better quality, so I went with a propane one. I had it installed about multiple months ago, & I have been using it since then. My mom came over the other afternoon, & as soon as he walked into the house, he started dry heaving. I asked his what was wrong, & he said that he smelled an undoubtedly strong fish smell. I told his that I did not make any seafood since I moved into the house. I looked all over the bedroom to try & figure out where the fish smell was coming from. My mom went near the propane fireplace, & he said that the smell was strongest there. I then realized that he was smelling propane. She hates the smell of propane so much that I have to tear out our propane furnace & update it with an electric one.
